I love this song! For the last couple of years this song passes by every now and then. Last week I found a neckless which says Amazing Grace. So from now I will always have a reminder to these words.
I’m still trying to figure out how to translate amazing to Dutch so it still has the same meaning, there has to be something else than Grace so unending big, as our Dutch song says.
Once I wanted to make a remix of the song with all the different versions there are nowadays. Loved to make a version which contained Trinity, Chris Tomlin, Flatfood 59, Mahalia Jackson and so on. I think it would be interesting. ;)
I love the story behind it. John Newton, before he became a Christian , he did everything that God had forbidden until he realised what Jesus did for him. He understood the amazing Grace God has given and wrote the poem. I am just trying to figure out how big, wonderful, marvellous Gods Grace and mercy is for us. But I still have no idea at all, I think. It is a never ending process…
The one version of the song that I most remembered was this woman who spoke at a conference a couple of years ago. In her life she had been through a lot of trials because of her believe in Christ, after her testimony she wanted to sing this song for us. For us, and for all our brothers and sisters somewhere. It just broke my heart.
Amazing Grace,
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
‘t Was grace that taught me how to fear
And Grace my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace apear
The hour I first believed.
